Isla Cíes

The Cíes Islands, along with the Islands of Ons, Sálvora and Cortegada, became in July 2002 the Atlantic Islands of Galicia National Park,  a marine and terrestrial area extending North to South  all along the Rias Baixas.

The Cíes Islands are located at the entrance to the Ria de Vigo, creating a natural barrier between the estuary and the sea. In this archipelago you can find the “Playa de Rodas”, named the best beach in the world in 2007 by the Guardian newspaper, which acclaimed its crystal clear turquoise waters, the white fine sands and the virgin pine forests stretching inland from the dunes.

This protected area is worth visiting for its scenery, excellent viewpoints, walking routes, bird observatories, vegetation, marine life, fauna, history, and more. The national park is a unique natural paradise.

Access to the Cíes Islands is provided by a catamaran which offers a regular service during summer and Easter, as well as weekend trips in low season depending on the weather. Boats depart for the archipelago from Cangas, Vigo and Baiona.
